President John's Message

Congratulations to Jack Wyche - this year’s recipient of the Elwyn Gaissert, Sr. Service Above Self Award.  Given annually by the Rotary Club of Roswell, this award recognizes an outstanding Rotarian who has consistently placed Service above Self.

In the early 1960's Roswell Rotary had an award called the Honor Roll of Outstanding Rotarians. This recognition was made at the annual Christmas Party. The award was presented to the Rotarian who performed outstanding services. The recipient was chosen by its former award winners. This early recognition evolved in the late 1980's as the Service Above Self Award. Upon the death of Elwyn Gaissert, Sr., the last original Charter member of Roswell Rotary Club, the Board of Directors in 2005-2006 changed the name to Elwyn Gaissert, Sr. Service Above Self Award.

Jack Wyche grew up in Atlanta, attended the University of South Carolina and served in the Army in Vietnam. He joined Roswell Rotary in July 2005, sponsored by his friend and neighbor Stan Moses. He has exemplified service above self through his volunteer efforts on many service projects never seeking any credit for himself…projects such as our Memorial Day Ceremony, 9/11 First Responders Cookout, Honor Air Basketball tournament, Cops ‘N’ Cars, and many more.  Often seen laboring over a hot fire as we grilled burgers and dogs to serve those who serve us.  Service Above Self…there is no more fitting a person who exemplifies this motto than Jack Wyche.

Three Amigos
Wondering What's up Down Under?-Alex Kaufman, Gordon Owens & Dave McCleary

This week President-Elect Alex, District Governor-Elect Gordon and Past President Dave McCleary bring us all the Rotary news from Down Under.  Fresh from Melbourne, Australia, these three will tell us about their exciting experiences at the Rotary International Convention from May 27-31 and their visits to the land Down Under.

Past President Moment
Gordon Owens- 2019-2020

The last of our Roswell Rotary history lessons courtesy of our Past Presidents happens this week.  We are blessed to have 28 past presidents still vitally active in our club.  President Gordon Owen’s year 2019-2020 will be one we remember for a long time, not because it was cut short by the Covid pandemic, but what was accomplished…a learning lab at HomeStretch, a Gate City beer benefitting End Human Trafficking flying on Delta, virtual meetings, financial aid to those in need when things shut down, and much more.  Be there this week to hear about Gordon’s year 2019-2020.
