President Alex's Message

This week we will be joined by Rotarian (and Beauty Queen) Tiffany Ervin of South Carolina to introduce us to our reinstated initiative The CART Fund. CART stands for  Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust. CART is a non-profit grassroots organization that provides “seed” money for cutting edge, high impact research grants to help find a treatment or cure for Alzheimer’s Disease.

I want to thank everyone for their patience as we continue to work through the logistics of a new dining vendor and experience. I appreciate everyone’s constructive feedback. We will endeavor to make our lunch meetings the best around. We will not have assigned seating this week, but I do hope that people got to know their fellow members better last week and enjoyed the shake up. We will continue to occasionally have randomized assigned seatings in the future.

Onward and upward!

 Alex

Coins for Alzheimer's Research Trust
Speaker: Tiffany Ervin Rotary Geek and CART

So many families have been touched by the long goodbye of Alzheimer's. And while much research is being conducted, we still have no treatment or cure. But there is much hope as scientists search for the breakthrough. So we are delighted to welcome Tiffany Ervin to speak at our club this week about CART. The CART Fund (Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust) is a non-profit grassroots organization that provides “seed” money for cutting edge, high impact research grants to help find a treatment or cure for Alzheimer’s Disease. While primarily supported by members of Rotary Clubs in the United States, CART has an active volunteer base and can accept donations of major gifts, bequests or volunteer efforts from anyone. Don't miss this opportunity to learn more about this Rotary driven non profit and example

About our speaker:

She is an avid sports fan and enjoys attending games at her alma mater, the University of South Carolina, where she earned a BA in Broadcast Journalism in 1992. She is a solopreneur who teaches social media and operates an online boutique on Ebay.

Tiffany believes true happiness comes from giving back to others, and she is often heard saying, “Work is a four-letter word. Volunteer is not.”  She has served on the board of directors for her local Chamber of Commerce, Gamecock Club, Rotary Club, Salvation Army and United Way Campaign Cabinet, among others. She was named Communicator of the Year for the Media Women of South Carolina in 2015.

She manages three personal websites and blogs, as well as social media accounts on every major platform, including a growing channel on YouTube.

Family of Care
Thoughts and Prayers Needed: Hal Coleman & Rick Meer

Hal Coleman: Update from Hal's family 7-17. He made it through surgery and that went as well as possible! He's sedated and on a breathing tube. He lost about 4 liters of blood and they gave him a lot. Next 48 hours are crucial and he is not out of the woods yet. Because of the blood loss, he can still have a significant heart problem. Hal will be in ICU for several days and we'll know in 1-2 days if he's getting better or worse. They said expect to be in hospital for 2 weeks.

Update 7-18 Never underestimate the power of prayer! Hal woke up and is communicating! He wanted a kiss from Lynne and a pencil. His color is good and his kidneys are working and "his vitals are excellent."

Thanks for your continued prayers!

Rick Meer: Our friend and fellow Rotarian, Rick Meer, suffered a heart attack this week. He is recovering at home but he and his family can use our prayers and love during this time.
