Roswell Rotary Club dedicated the entire month of October to raising awareness and funds for Rotary International’s PolioPlus initiative. Our club created a project that combined education, statewide collaboration, fellowship, and fundraising.
The campaign launched in a unique and highly visible way with a Rotary Polio Tailgate in Athens, Georgia before the UGA vs. UK football game. Roswell Rotary invited clubs from across Georgia (including Athens Rotary), Lexington Rotary Clubs and every Rotary District and Club in Georgia to join us in the kickoff event.
We tailgated with Rotarians traveled from Camilla to Savannah and Valdosta to Dalton, demonstrating strong statewide engagement. In addition, attendees included past and future District Governors, Georgia Rotary Student Program (GRSP) students and Youth Exchange students, and around 27 Roswell Rotarians highlighting Rotary’s multi-generational and international commitment to the fight against polio.
During the tailgate, Roswell Rotary launched a month-long PolioPlus "raffle fundraiser," using the event to both raise awareness and generate support for the eradication effort. Throughout October, the campaign continued at each weekly club meeting, where Rotary International polio awareness videos were shown and speakers reinforced the importance of Rotary’s global health mission. Raffle ticket sales continued throughout the month, keeping the focus on PolioPlus front and center.
The campaign culminated on World Polio Day with the Roswell Rotary Club’s Third Annual PolioPlus Cornhole Tournament, an event that brings Rotarians, family members, and community supporters together in a spirit of fellowship and service.
Participation in the tournament grew by approximately 50 percent from year's past, with all competition spots selling out. More than 80 Rotarians, family members, and supporters participated in the event.
By the end of October, the Roswell Rotary Club had raised nearly $15,000 for PolioPlus, representing a significant increase in both engagement and funds raised compared to previous years.
